BIM (Building Information Modeling)

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a process for creating and managing digital representations of a building's physical and functional characteristics. BIM models contain geometry plus data — materials, specifications, system properties — enabling coordination across disciplines before construction begins.

What Engineers Mean by BIM (Building Information Modeling)

BIM allows structural, MEP, civil, and architectural teams to work in a federated 3D model, detecting clashes between ductwork, piping, beams, and walls before they become field conflicts. Software platforms like Revit, Navisworks, and BIM 360 are commonly used on larger commercial and government projects. Many owners, GCs, and design-build teams now require BIM as a contract deliverable.
