Choose the adopted compliance path

The applicable energy code, edition, amendments, project type, alteration status, climate data, and AHJ submittal checklist determine the path. Prescriptive, trade-off, and performance methods have different inputs and documentation; a state code page or model-code summary does not replace confirmation with the permitting authority.

Inputs that make the result reliable

The energy record follows the actual design rather than a generic building description. We coordinate wall and roof assemblies, glazing, lighting power, HVAC equipment, ventilation, controls, operating schedules, and utility or owner requirements with the current architectural and MEP set. Missing or changing inputs are documented as risks.

Many jurisdictions require energy documentation, but the form and scope depend on the adopted code, project type, alteration rules, and AHJ checklist. Confirm the current requirement for the project.
Can an energy model be completed before the design is final?
A preliminary model can inform decisions, but final compliance documentation needs the current design inputs and must be coordinated with the submitted drawings.
Does an energy report replace MEP design?
No. Energy documentation evaluates a compliance path; it does not replace mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, commissioning, or architectural responsibilities.
