Title 24 refers to the California Code of Regulations Title 24, which contains the California Building Standards Code — including energy efficiency requirements (Part 6) that are often stricter than the national IECC. Any building constructed or altered in California must comply with the applicable Title 24 parts.
Title 24 Part 6 (the California Energy Code) sets prescriptive and performance requirements for the building envelope, HVAC, lighting, water heating, and electrical systems. The California Energy Commission (CEC) updates Part 6 on roughly a three-year cycle; the 2022 edition introduced requirements for heat pump water heaters, EV charging infrastructure, and solar-ready provisions in many building types. Compliance is demonstrated through a T24 energy analysis report prepared by a qualified analyst using CEC-approved software.
