Site Clearing and Stripping

Recommendations specify removal of vegetation, topsoil, roots, debris, and other deleterious material. Organic and loose surface soils are generally unsuitable to build on and must be removed before earthwork begins.

Removal of Unsuitable Soils

Existing uncontrolled fill, soft or compressible soils, and other problem materials may need to be over-excavated and replaced with engineered fill. The report identifies these materials and the depth and extent of removal required.

Fill Placement and Engineered Fill

When fill is needed to raise grade or replace removed soils, recommendations specify acceptable fill materials, how they should be placed in controlled lifts, and the compaction and moisture requirements. Engineered fill placed to specification behaves predictably under load, unlike uncontrolled fill.

Subgrade and Foundation Preparation
