New York City PE-Stamped Drawings With a Defined Filing Role

NYC DOB receives filings and identifies when a registered design professional, special inspection agency, or other applicant is required. Depending on the scope, FDNY, DEP, DOT, LPC, or a utility may also require submissions. The PE’s New York registration, firm authority, scope, and filing role must be confirmed before any seal is used.

Stamped documents must address the applicable NYC Construction Codes, zoning and administrative rules, energy requirements, and discipline-specific filing forms. A state license does not make every document acceptable to DOB, and a seal does not replace owner authorizations, special inspections, contractor means-and-methods duties, or agency approvals.

NYC’s BIS/DOB NOW record should make clear which professional prepared, checked, signed, and submitted each discipline. That chain matters when a tenant background changes, an agency asks for a response, or construction reveals an unshown condition; it is not replaced by a digital seal image.
