How much do engineered deck drawings cost?

There is no responsible universal price for engineered deck drawings. The fee depends on the deck's geometry, height, materials, occupancy and loads, attachment to the house, posts and beams, stairs and guards, footings, site conditions, available records, required calculations, permit format, and revisions. Ask for a proposal that defines the drawings, assumptions, field verification, and coordination rather than a detached price for a sheet.

Deck geometry and load path set the design

A deck drawing is more than a plan view. The engineer traces occupant and dead loads through joists, beams, posts, connections, ledger or independent support, and footings, then considers lateral stability, stairs, guards, and the house interface. I ask clients to send a dimensioned sketch and photos so the scope starts with the actual arrangement.

Existing conditions can change the deliverable

A proposed ledger may meet an altered wall, a footing may be near a property or utility constraint, or a house may not provide the assumed attachment. Missing records and concealed framing can require measurements or a site visit. The responsible engineer decides whether photos are enough and records limitations so a permit drawing does not quietly rely on an unsupported detail.
